Project Overview
This paper project in scenic design followed the traditional creation process of modern circus. Circus director Gypsy Snider came to the class with a brief describing a modern retelling of the myths of Echo and Narcissus. The project involved translating this brief into an aesthetic world in an immersive space, incorporating the circus disciplines included in the brief into the design.

In my interpretation, Echo wakes up after many centuries, in a near future world. Here people live simultaneously in both a physical and a digital realm, as we do now. Echo is in search for her lover, Narcissus, who is fully subsumed in the digital world of bright smiling reflections. Echo, a nymph with no voice, moves through this unfamiliar terrain, meeting all the gods she's known before, now in their new forms, eventually freeing Narcissus from seeing his reflection to seeing her as well, from a digital existence to one that melds digital and physical harmoniously. In the process, she will become empowered and find a voice of her own.
